It isn't possible to complete the manufacture of a skep in a day, but this course will cover the techniques and tools required to start and build the two main skep types, using Huntsman wheat straw. This is a traditional long-stem variety still grown specifically for thatching. Students will be shown how to finish off the skep they have started, and will be provided with sufficient material to allow this to be done at home.
